Hi! I'm Lori Thomas and I currently teach 3rd through 6th Special Ed at MNW Elementary. This is my 20th year here at MNW. I first taught 1st and 2nd grades, then moved to 5th grade where I taught for 12 years. In the 2013-2014 school year I transferred to upper elementary special education. It has been a great transfer for me and I love my students! I am widowed, have 2 grown sons who are married and have given me six wonderful grandchildren. I love going to watch their sporting events and music programs.
Upon graduating from high school, I enrolled in a Voc Tech program that was completed in one year. The thought of going to school for four more years was overwhelming to me. After my sons started school I spent many year regretting my decision to not pursue an elementary ed degree. So at the age of 35 I decided to follow my passion and returned to college with two young boys at home. I first attended Iowa Central before transferring to Buena Vista University. I graduated in May, 1995 with an Elementary Education degree and an area of concentration in mathematics. I also graduated with a reading endorsement. In the fall of 2005 I started graduate classes at Buena Vista University, graduating with a Masters in Education degree in the spring of 2007. In 2013 when I transferred to Special Education I also obtained a special education endorsement.
