by Matt Pohlman
The Cougar Track team is looking to kick off the 2017 season with several new faces and a renewed attitude. This years' squad consists of 21 members with ten freshmen, six sophomores, three juniors and two seniors. The Cougars are starting to build some numbers in the distance events and we look to be a much more balanced team. We are looking to be able to place well in all field and running events by the end of the season. We have added some quality freshmen in the distance and mid-distance events. We also have are expecting a lot from our freshman thrower, Autumn Marsh. Eight returning letter-winners are back again this season.  Becca Krueger returns in the throws off her 13th place finish in discus with a throw of 105'03" and finished 4th in the Shot Put with a throw of 38'0.75".  Cloie Herzberg, Gabbie Herzberg, and Savannah Michalski are also returning State Track participants in the 4x100 relay (12th), 4x200 relay (22nd), Sprint Medley relay (18th), and Shuttle Hurdle Relay (21st). So far this season, the girls have practiced with a great attitude and effort even in less than desirable weather conditions. The Cougars open their 2017 season on Monday, March 27th at the Greene County Relays in Jefferson. Field events begin at 4:30 with running events starting at 5:00.
