Math at MNW Elementary

We have a variety of ways to teach math and support math learning for our students. At MNW Elementary we believe in a growth mindset. Everyone can learn math, and be successful with mathematics. Our MNW Elementary math team includes our elementary principal, teacher leader, several classroom teachers, and one of the secondary math teachers. We work together to support our staff with the implementation of math instruction and curriculum.

enVision

enVision packs a unique one-two punch. Lessons start with Problem-Based Learning (PBL), where students must think critically about a real-world math problem, evaluate options, collaborate, and present solutions. This is followed by Visual Learning to solidify the underlying math concepts. It's the best way to help kids better understand math ideas.

You're going to love what you see. New K-5 enVision® Mathematics© 2020 is the only math program that combines problem-based learning and visual learning to deepen students' conceptual understanding. It also incorporates a new instructional strategy called 3-Act Tasks.

Number Talks

Number talks are short (5 - 15 minutes) lessons based around number sense topics.  They can be done any time during math class, or throughout the day when you have time to squeeze them in.  Examples include:

Dreambox

Dreambox is a virtual math program that we use to supplement our math instruction. It is grade-level based, but moves with the students at their level, depending on how they are performing on the lessons.

Here is the link for students to play Dreambox.  All students have their own usernames and passwords, which can be obtained from their classroom teacher.
